Brief description

A plaque depicting S Simon Stylites, the 5th century hermit monk who is said to have spent most of his life living on a platform on top of a pillar near Aleppo, which attracted crowds of pilgrims. Translucent enamels on a copper panel, surrounded by a hand-beaten silver frame set with large pieces of mother of pearl, the whole mounted in an ebony frame. The enamel is the work of Edith Dawson and the silver is by Nelson Dawson. The enamel is dated 1903 and the mount 1922, with London hallmark and maker's stamp, and frame.
